Phippard Hits Career-High, Lifts Bobcat Women to Win over Western Carolina

Phippard, a native of Kirkland, Wash., sparked a second-half Montana State (3-2) rally. For the game, she converted eight-of-14 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers.
Trailing 51-37 with 17:45 remaining, the Bobcats rattled off 14 unanswered points to even the score at 51-all. Phippard notched eight points to spark the run.
“Anne Phippard really helped bail us out,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “She was the spark we needed, and it fueled the rest off our offense.”
Also contributing to the Bobcat attack was Jenny Heringer, who recorded 20 points, including a five-of-nine performance from three-point range.
Other Bobcats hitting double-figures were Katie Bussey 12, Erica Perry 12, and Nubia Garcia 10.
Garcia ended the game with a double-double as she posted a team-high 11 rebounds.
“As excited as I am for our offense, I’m equally disappointed with our defensive effort,” Binford said. “We had a slow defensive start and allowed them to shoot 53 percent in the first half. We need to do better. Giving up 82 points will not get it done on nights when we’re not shooting well.”
MSU’s second-half rally started with its press, which induced seven Western Carolina (2-3) turnovers. The Bobcats ended the game with ten steals, led by Perry with five.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 40 percent from the field, including 47 percent in the second stanza as MSU posted 57 points in the final period.
WCU was paced in the loss by Kendra Carroll, who came off the bench to notch 17 points.
Montana State will host Boise State on Friday, Dec. 5 in Worthington Arena.
