Montana State secondary coach Justin Gaines becomes the first assistant to coach for the Bobcats against his alma mater in Washington-Grizzly Stadium. The Bobcats have a fairly strong history of hiring football coaches who played at UM, including current Grizzly running backs coach Mick Delaney and former MSU head coach Clyde Carpenter (1946-49), who led the Cats to their first-ever bowl game (1946 Harbor Bowl).

A pair of Bobcat seniors who have battled injury are dressed and participating in pre-game warmups. Nose tackle Chris Kolone and center Jim Verlanic are each expected to start.

Today's marquee matchup may be between two of the Big Sky's top running backs. MSU's Demetrius Crawford is 2nd in the league in rushing, while UM's Chase Reynolds is also in the top five.

Crawford's name is mentioned more and more often with that of MSU's all-time running back Ryan Johnson. Crawford is the first player since Johnson to run for at least 100 yards in four straight games. Johnson closed the 2001 season with five straight.
