Bobcats Topple Colorado

Bobby Howard scored 24 points, including a second-chance basket with one second to play that sent the game to overtime, as Montana State beat Colorado 85-82 in Boulder on Tuesday.
"It was chaos," MSU coach Brad Huse said of the scramble that led to Howard's basket that tied the game at the end of regulation. Howard missed a free throw on an and-one situation. "We were disappointed that we'd given up the lead. Will (Bynum) had a tough drive, he did a nice job attacking the rim, and Bobby did a nice job getting to the ball and putting it in."
Montana State led for most of the game, taking a 6-4 lead on Howard's three-pointer at 16:35 of the first half and not trailing until just before Howard tied it at the end of regulation. The Bobcats led by as many as 13 in the first half before taking a 37-30 lead into the locker room, and led by as many as 15 in the second half.
"I'm proud of the character our guys showed," Huse said. "We could have hung our heads (after regulation), and then they hit a three (to start the overtime period), but we'll learn from that. Next time we'll do a better job managing a lead."
With the Bobcats trailing 76-75 with 2:38 left in regulation, Howard hit a three-pointer to give MSU the lead. Colorado tied the game twice on a pair of free throws, but Will Bynum scored on a layup with 54 seconds remaining, and Danny Piepoli's two free throws gave the Bobcats an 84-80 lead. Cory Higgins scored on a layup with 10 seconds left, but Bynum made one of two free throws and Colorado couldn't get a clean shot off as the game ended.
Howard shot 9-for-14 from the field, 5-for-7 from three-point range. Huse lauded him for his scoring output, but was even more pleased with his rebounding. "Bobby's playing hard, and he's playing with a lot of confidence. The most important thing is that he's trying to do it on both ends. He shot the ball well tonight, but he validated that with his rebounding. That's as important as his scoring."
MSU out-rebounded the Big 12 Buffs 37-to-30 on the night, shooting 49% to CU's 48%.
The Bobcats play again at Boise State on Monday night, Nov. 24, before traveling to Oregon State for a Wednesday night contest.
