Desin guides Bobcats past Vikings

Desin’s numbers weren’t spectacular. He completed eight of 15 passes for 120. But he avoided being sacked all day and his mistakes didn’t hurt the Bobcats. Desin, who two weeks ago was MSU’s third string quarterback, didn’t have to be spectacular because the Bobcat running game was.
Demetrius Crawford rushed for 187 yards and two touchdowns as MSU totaled 369 yards on the ground. Aaron Mason added 77 yards, C.J. Palmer 53 yards and a touchdown and Desin 45 yards and a score.
PSU scored first on a 24-yard field goal by Danny Urrego. After Crawford’s 17-yard touchdown scramble, Aaron Woods of PSU returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards to give PSU’s its last lead of the game at 10-7.
Kevin Retoriano answered with a 17-yard interception return to put MSU up to stay, 14-10. Near the end of the first half, Desin threw his first career touchdown pass, hitting Kyle Begger from five yards out.
PSU closed the gap to 21-17 at halftime on a bizarre play. With no time left on the play clock, MSU’s Ramon Lewis intercepted a PSU Hail Mary pass in the end zone. Lewis tried to run the ball out of the end zone, but fumbled and PSU’s Daniel Wolverton recovered for a touchdown.
At the half, MSU had 248 total yards and 16 first downs to PSU’s 71 yards and four first downs.
The Bobcats (7-4 overall, 5-2 in the Big Sky Conference) continued to pour it on in the second half. Crawford ripped off a 44-yard scoring gallop and Desin followed with a 5-yard scamper to give MSU a 35-17 edge. PSU (3-7 and 2-5) scored on a 4-yard pass from Drew Hubel to Mario D’Amrbosio.
In the fourth quarter, MSU’s Tyler Lulay scored on a faked field goal, making it 42-25. Hubel hit Woods on an 8-yard pass before MSU’s Palmer finished the scoring on a 22-yard run.
PSU, which plays host to Northern Colorado next week, has lost its last six road games. MSU has now won four straight games and heads to Montana next week.
The Bobcats totaled 489 yards overall and gained 28 first downs. PSU was held to 247 yards and 15 first downs.
