The Scouting Report:
The Sacramento State volleyball team is 8-20 overall and 6-6 in Big Sky action. The Hornets are battling for a spot in the league’s postseason tournament, after winning the conference crown the past 11 years under Hall of Fame coach Debby Colberg. Colberg’s replacement, long-time assistant Ruben Volta, saw the Hornets endure a 12-match losing streak earlier this fall. However, Sacramento State has gone 6-6 since that time, which has included three 3-2 losses. The Hornets defeated the Bobcats 25-21, 25-20, 25-15 on Oct. 11 in Sacramento. On the season, the Hornets have been led by Desiree Hoyum, who is averaging 2.82 kills and 2.73 digs per set. Senior setter Rose Burke is dishing out 9.15 assists per set.
‘Cat Chat:
Senior Laura Viren broke into MSU’s all-time career digs list at No. 10 with 853 saves, surpassing Jenny Ohnsorg’s (1992-95) mark of 840 digs. Viren now has her sights set on the No. 9 spot currently held by Brooke Olsen (1996-99) with 863 saves ...Kyla Hendry is ranked sixth in the Big Sky Conference averaging .90 blocks...Taylor Faught is listed seventh in assists per game at 8.68. Against Montana, Faught, a Billings West graduate, averaged 10 assists per set, well above her season average...Libero Meghan Albiston ranks 9th in the Big Sky in digs, averaging 3.74 per set. Just a sophomore, Albiston is only 169 saves from MSU’s top ten.
Stand Up and Cheer:
