Montana State Freshman Leads Bobcat Women’s Blue-Gold Scrimmage

“I thought we had a good scrimmage, offensively,” Binford said. “We could’ve been more patient, but I thought we had good balance.”
Bussey, a 5-9 guard from Alamosa, Colo., converted 8-of-19 from the field, including four three-pointers. For the game, MSU shot 41 percent from field and 80 percent from the free throw.
“Katie is a spark-plug,” Binford said. “She did what we recruited her to do, and that’s to help with scoring.”
Junior point-guard Erica Perry, one of the Big Sky’s top defensive players, posted a team-high six steals, while adding three assists and going 7-of-8 from the line.
Heringer, a second-team All Big Sky performer last winter, connected on 5-of-12 from the field, including two three-pointers.
“We have a solid nucleus returning,” Binford said. “Erica and Jenny each had a solid performance, and Nubia, despite battling the flu, picked up where she left off last season.”
MSU hauled down 33 rebounds and posted 16 turnovers.
“The reason we played our men’s scout team is because they’re bigger and faster,” Binford said. “We have a long way to go defensively. But, if we can pick that element up against them, and progress, we’ll be in good shape.”
MSU opens its 2008-09 campaign Nov. 8 when it hosts UM-Western in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
