MSU Tops Dragons in Exhibition Opener

Erik Rush scored 21 points and bobby Howard added 18 to lead Montana State to a 92-83 win over Minnesota State-Moorhead on Saturday.
The Bobcats forced 22 Dragon turnovers, out-rebounding MSU-M 33-to-32. While integrating six new players into his system, MSU coach Brad Huse liked the flow and tempo his squad displayed. "I'm really pleased with how the guys played," he said. "We put up enough points, but we'll have to do a better job keeping points down on the other side. All in all, I though it was a good performance."
Montana State scored the first six points of the game, and trailed only once, at 15-14. The Bobcats led by as many as 11 in the first half, and stretched the cushion to 18 on several occasions in the second half before Moorhead whittled the lead down to single-digits late in the game.
Divaldo Mbunga and Danny Piepoli each chipped in with 14 points. The rebounding situation was evenly distributed on the Bobcat side, with Mbunga grabbing six and four players getting five. Mbunga blocked a pair of shots, while newcomer Will Bynum nabbed two steals. Fellow JC transfer Marquis Navarre led the Bobcats with three assists.
Xavier Reed led all players with 22 points, and grabbed six rebounds, to lead MSU-M.
