The Week That Was:
The Bobcats had just one match last weekend, losing to the University of Montana 26-24, 25-17, 25-21 in Dahlberg Arena. Montana State opened the first set on fire, hitting .360 from the floor, while holding Montana to .212. The difference in the opening stanza was servive errors as the Bobcats commited eight miscues from behind the line. For the night, MSU ended with 15 service errors. The Bobcat offense also sputtered in the late going finishing with a .106 attack mark. Sophomore transfer Jodeen Rademacher led all players with eight kills. The Adams, Neb., also posted a .357 attack mark, a season-high three aces, a team-high eight digs and one solo block. Middle blocker Kyla Hendry also had a strong showing with four kills, a .375 attack mark and two blocks. Junior setter Taylor Faught dished out 23 assists, while sophomore libero Meghan Albiston posted seven digs.
The Scouting Report:
The Sacramento State volleyball team has undergone significant changes. After notching its 11th straight Big Sky title last November, the Hornets have struggled with the loss of four senior starters and are 4-15 overall and 2-2 in Big Sky action. First-year head coach Ruben Volta served as a member of the Sacramento State coaching staff the past eight years, and took control of the Hornet program as Hall of Fame mentor Debby Colberg retired at the end of the 2007 campaign. Leading the 2008 squad is junior Desiree Hoyum, who is averaging a team-best 2.68 kills per set. In Big Sky Conference action, Hoyum is averaging 3.93 kills and 2.86 digs per contest. Senior setter Rose Burke is dishing out 10.86 assists per game and is second on the squad in service aces. The Hornets are led at the net by 5-foot-11 Maddison Thivierge, who is averaging .74 blocks per contest.
Stand Up and Cheer:
Despite its 1-27 overall record and 0-12 home slate last fall, the Bobcats averaged 840 fans per game, which was the best in the Big Sky Conference. MSU drew a season-best 1,287 for the annual ‘Cat-Griz match. This year, MSU is averaging 820 fans per match, which ranks 38th in the nation.
It’s All Academic:
Montana State juniors Nicole Grypiuk and Kyla Hendry have been nominated for CoSIDA District VII All-Academic honors. Grypiuk, MSU’s lone returning Big Sky All-Academic performer, currently has a 3.51 grade-point average in education, while Hendry boasts a 3.50 gpa in animal science.

The 6-foot outside hitter from Adams, Neb., led all players with a match-high eight kills. In addition, Rademacher posted a .357 attack mark, and paced the Bobcats with three aces, eight digs and one solo block.
