Bobcat Women’s Basketball Team Holds Blue-Gold Scrimmage

The scrimmage and reception are open to the public, with the first twenty individuals at the game receiving a free ticket to MSU’s football, volleyball and men’s basketball contests on Saturday.
The Bobcats return three starters and eight letterwinners from last year’s squad that posted an 18-13 overall mark and an 11-5 slate in Big Sky Conference play.
“We’ve had a tremendous two weeks of practice and the team has made a lot of progress,” said fourth-year head coach Tricia Binford. “This team is extremely motivated and they’re anxious to play the Blue-Gold scrimmage to get the butterflies out.”
Returning to the Bobcat starting line-up are Erica Perry, Nubia Garcia and Jenny Heringer.
Perry, a junior guard, was one of the top defensive players in the Big Sky Conference, averaging a league best 2.84 steals per game. Garcia, a 6-foot-1 forward, led the Bobcats in rebounding last winter, averaging 6.7 boards, while chipping in 8.8 points.
Heringer, a Billings native, garnered second-team All Big Sky Conference honors after averaging 12.5 points and 6.4 rebounds, while shooting 46 percent from the field and 89 percent from the line.
“We have a solid nucleus back,” Binford said. “Add in some exciting newcomers, and we feel that we have the pieces in place to be a major contender in the Big Sky Conference.”
MSU will open its season Nov. 8 in an exhibition game against UM-Western at 7 p.m., in Worthington Arena.
