Montana State Hoopsters Picked Third in Preseason Polls

The University of Montana and Portland State University were tabbed one-two in both polls, as well.
“I think it’s pretty accurate in terms of how everyone finished last year,” said MSU fourth-year head coach Tricia Binford. “A lot of teams have strong players coming back, along with talented redshirts. Being picked third shows some respect for our program, after losing two significant players in Rebecca Mercer and Krislyn Wallace.”
Montana State finished the 2007-08 campaign with an 18-13 overall mark and an 11-5 Big Sky Conference slate. The Bobcats upset Idaho State in the semifinals of the league tournament, and advanced to the Big Sky Conference championship game for the first time since the 2003 campaign.
The Bobcats turned a corner with their program last winter, after posting just a 3-23 mark in Binford’s first season in Bozeman.
“Every year we’ve taken steps to improve,” Binford said. “We have high expectations for this year, and our players are excited to meet those challenges.”
Montana State will open its season Nov. 8 when it hosts UM-Western in exhibition action.
