Montana State Ski Team Opens Season at Colorado Invitational

The alpine portion of the CU invitational will be held Jan. 5-6 at Steamboat Springs. The giant slalom races will be held on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m., while the slalom events will take place on Sunday, beginning at 4 p.m.
The Nordic competition will be held Jan. 19-20 at Snow Mountain Ranch in Winter Park, Colo.
All nine NCAA western region squads will participate this weekend, including MSU, CU, Alaska-Anchorage, Denver, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Western State and Whitman.
The men’s alpine squad will be led this season by Toby LaMar, Don Brockett and Cory Harris, all of which have been NCAA national championship qualifiers. Also looking for top 15 places this weekend will be Kyle Taylor, Andre Hokholt and Alex van Roon.
The Bobcat women’s team will be paced by 2007 NCAA qualifiers Amy Lattimer and Carmel McElroy. Also competing this weekend will be Chichi Williams, Alyssa Cartmill, Ali Leighton, Victoria Christensen, Hannah Victory, Sasha Dingle, and Sonja Jennings.
“We’re ready to get going and see where we’re at,” said MSU head coach Dan Brelsford. “We return a lot of talented kids, and we have some exciting newcomers, as well.”
The invitational serves to honor the late Laura Flood. She died instantly at Eldora Ski Resort when she fell and hit a tree while on a training run on April 3, 1990. Sharpe was a sophomore on the CU ski team at the time of her death.
