Annual Indoor Track and Field Poll Announced

In a vote by the nine Big Sky Conference head coaches, Weber State was narrowly picked to win the women’s championship over Northern Arizona. Weber State earned three first-place votes and 57 total points. Northern Arizona earned five first-place votes and 56 total points.
Montana State’s men and women were both picked sixth in the annual poll.
Head MSU track and field coach Dale Kennedy is much more optimistic about his team’s chances for the Big Sky race.
“I guess I’m not surprised at that,” Kennedy said. “I think that we can do better than that but that’s a starting point. That’s where we they see us right now, but I don’t think that is where we are going to finish.”
Weber State, coached by Jim Blaisdell, is the defending champion. The Wildcats have won five of the last six indoor championships. Northern Arizona, coached by J.W. Hardy, won the 2006 championship.
Sacramento State captured its first Big Sky Conference team track and field championship of any kind last year in Bozeman. The Hornets edged Weber State by 1.5 points.
Voting is calculated by each team receiving eight points for a first place vote, seven points for a second place vote, etc. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their respective teams. Below are the final results with the number of first place votes in parenthesis.
