Red Hot Second Half Lifts Montana State Women Past Eagles

Leading 33-32 at intermission, Montana State (9-10, 4-3) used a 12-2 run mid-way through the second stanza to stake a 61-48 advantage with 9:57 remaining, following three Heringer free throws.
MSU connected on 17-of-24 field goals in the second half and connected on 14-of-18 free throws.
“We had a great second half and that was nice to see coming off the loss to Northern Colorado,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “I thought our posts really started to establish themselves, and it was nice to see a lot of different kids step up at different times.”
Mercer finished the game with 26 points, connecting on seven-of-14 from the floor, including a nine-of-11 effort from the charity stripe. She also added two assists and two steals.
Heringer posted a career-high 20 points on six-of-10 from the field and seven-of-seven from the line. The Billings Central grad also added a double-double with 10 rebounds, while dishing out two assists.
Also in double-figures for the Bobcats were Sarah Strand 13 and Erica Perry 12.
Eastern Washington (3-17, 0-7) was paced by Sydney Benson with 20 points and six rebounds.
MSU will host Portland State on Saturday night in Worthington Arena.
