MSU Nabs Road Win, Heads Home for Eastern

Casey Durham scored a game-high 18 points and Montana State made the most of its few trips to the free throw line, as the Bobcats toppled Northern Colorado 70-67 in Greeley on Thursday.
Durham's 18 points, his most since November 13, led the Bobcats to their first Big Sky road win in three tries. Durham's two free throws with 47 seconds to play and Branden Johnson's pair with eight seconds left helped the Bobcats seal the victory. Montana State converted all six of its second half free throws and nine of its 10 on the night.
Montana State built a double-digit lead midway through the second half, grabbing a 50-38 lead with 12:18 to play. The Bears slowly chipped away, pulling to within four six-and-a-half minutes later on a three-pointer by Thanasi Panagiotakopoulos.
The Cats led by eight with 3:15 to play after Phil Friesen's two free throws, but Robert Palacios' tip-in and a pair of free throws by Jefferson Mason cut that cushion in half. Panagiotakopoulos answered Durham's free throws with a layup and a free throw on a conventional three-point play, then converted a layup after a Friesen turnover to cut MSU's lead to one with 11 seconds left.
Johnson was fouled three seconds later, and after his free throws Panagiotakopoulos missed a three-pointer and the Bobcats had the victory.
Johnson finished with 15 points, his most since the season opener. The Bobcats shot 45.5% on the night, holding Northern Colorado to just 38.1% from the floor. Montana State compensated for Northern Colorado's 14-for-24 effort from the free throw line by draining 11 three-pointers to UNC's five.
Montana State now stands 3-3 in Big Sky play and 11-8 overall, while the Bears are 8-11 and 2-5. MSU returns home to host Eastern Washington on Saturday, while UNC hosts the Grizzlies.
