MSU Game Notes vs. Northern Colorado

MONTANA STATE (10-8/2-3) at Northern Colorado (8-10/2-4) Montana State snapped out of a seven-half shooting slump by nailing 62.5% of its second half shots against Idaho State and racing to a 74-53 win over the Bengals on Saturday. The Bobcats come face-to-face with a bizarre stretch of its Big Sky schedule, traveling to Greeley, Colo., for a Thursday night contest against Northern Colorado before retuning home less than 48 hours later to host Eastern Washington. Five days after that, the Bobcats travel to Cheney to face the Eagles in a quick rematch. Carlos Taylor continues to lead the Big Sky in scoring with 19.0 points a game.

Eastern Washington’s Adris DeLeon’s 42-point effort against Northern Colorado knocked Carlos Taylor off the perch of the Big Sky’s top-scoring game, but Taylor retained his lead in scoring average, netting 19.0 points a game overall and 26.4 points in Big Sky games. Taylor’s 35-point weekend actually lowered his average.
Glasswork
Montana State got back on track in the rebound column Saturday by pounding the glass against Idaho State to the tune of 34-to-22. The margin was MSU’s largest margin of the year for the Bobcats against a Division I opponent. The Bobcats had been out-rebounded in the previous three games, but have still grabbed more boards than 13 of their 18 opponents this year. MSU entered league play as the Big Sky’s best rebounding team, but in conference games only stand third in the loop with a +1.2 rebounding margin.
Swats
After turning away 3.2 shots a game last year, the Bobcats turn away 3.1 shots a game this year, the second-best mark in the Big Sky. A pair of Bobcats stand tall on the Big Sky’s blocked shots list. Divaldo Mbunga is fifth in the league with 1.2 blocked shots a game, while Adrian Zamora is ninth at 0.8 per game.
Free is Good
MSU and its two opponents combined to shoot 60-for-75 from the line (80%).
Turning the Turnstiles
Montana State continues to lead the Big Sky Conference in attendance, drawing 4,603 to its home men’s games this year. No one in the Big Sky other than the Treasure State duo (UM averages 4,015 fans a game) averages as many as 4,000 fans a game.
