After a bounce back game against Idaho State on Saturday, the Bobcat men enter a bizarre stretch of traveling and home games on their conference schedule. The stint begins with an away game at Northern Colorado on Thursday and then a quick trip home to play Eastern Washington on Saturday. It concludes with a turnaround against Eastern Washington at Cheney on the following Thursday. Northern Colorado is coming off back to back overtime losses on the road to Eastern Washington and Portland State. EWU sits one notch above MSU in the conference standings at 3-3.
Last Week:
Jan. 17: lost to Weber State, 76-78
Jan. 19: beat Idaho State, 64-53
Montana State shot 62.5% in the second half to upend red-hot Idaho State in Worthington Arena on Saturday. The much-needed win came after the ‘Cats losing streak had been extended Thursday in a heartbreaking 76-78 loss to Weber.
Women’s Basketball (8-9, 3-2)
Coming:
Jan. 24: vs. Northern Colorado, tip-off at 7:05 p.m. at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse
The Bobcat women have one game on their schedule this week as Northern Colorado comes to town Thursday night. UNC comes in with a 3-1 record sitting in second place in the conference. The Bears are led by Jamie Schroeder averaging 15ppg in conference play. The ‘Cats are led in scoring by Rebecca Mercer at 17 ppg. Two other ‘Cat players are averaging double figures this season; Krislyn Wallace (12.9) and Sarah Strand (10.9).
Last Week:
Jan. 17 :beat Weber State, 77-65
Jan. 19: lost at Idaho State, 80-85
The Bobcat women split on the road last week beating Weber State handily at Ogden, but falling short at Pocatello on Saturday. The split gave the ‘Cats sole possession of third place in the conference.
Indoor Track and Field
Coming:
Jan. 25: hosting the MSU Open, events start at 4:30 p.m. at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse
Friday afternoon will mark the first full indoor track and field meet at Montana State for the 2008 season. Field events begin at 4:30 with the women’s shot, women’s long jump, and men’s pole vault. Track events start at 5:20 p.m. with the women’s 55-meter hurdle trials.

Jan. 18-19: Combined Events Invite
Freshman Asa Staven placed second in the heptathlon, qualifying for the BSC Championships in both the heptathlon and the high jump. Senior Kelsey Cooley placed third in the women’s pentathlon and her score qualified her for the BSC Indoor Championships. Junior Amanda DeHaan met the BSC qualifying standards in the pentathlon and the 55-meter hurdles as well.
Skiing

Last Week:
The Montana State ski team finished seventh at the 14th Annual Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial Ski Meet hosted by the University of Colorado. The Bobcat men’s contingent had a strong outing as MSU had two racers in the top 15. Junior Anders Folleraas placed eighth overall, covering the 15-kilometer course in 41:21.3., while Bernhard Roenning finished 13th in 41:49.1. Junior Claire Rennie paced the Bobcat women, finishing 14th overall, covering the 10-kilometer course in 33:39.4. She was followed by Kaelin Kiesel, 17th, 34:13.7; Karoline Teien, 21st, 34:51.5; Melina Park, 28th, 36:03.0; and Fraiser Opel, 31st, 37:42.0.
The CU Invitational marked the first time seven schools have eclipsed the 400-point mark since the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA) adopted the current scoring format in 2000.
Men’s Tennis
Last Week:
Jan. 17: lost at #22 Boise State, 0-7
Jan. 18: lost at Utah State, 3-4
Montana State freshmen shined in a 3-4 loss at Utah State over the weekend. Fletcher Keyes (Park City, Utah), Pawel Turzanski (Lodz, Poland), and Esteban Ferrero (Columbia, South America) all won their singles matches against Utah State as the ‘Cats fell 3-4 to the Aggies.
