Mercer Leads Bobcat Women Past Northern Arizona

The MSU win snapped a four-game losing streak to the Lumberjacks.
Mercer, who connected on 7-of-16 from the field, including four 3-pointers, was sidelined on Thursday with a foot injury.
Montana State (7-8, 2-1) received a balanced scoring attack as three other starters hit double-digits-- with two posting double-doubles.
“We had a very balanced attack,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “And, our bench came up big and gave us two good runs.”
Junior Nubia Garcia had a career night for the Bobcats. Aside from recording 13 points, she had a career 13 rebounds and seven assists. In addition, the Chihuahua, Mexico native added three blocks and a steal.
Also in double-figures for MSU were Sarah Strand, 16, and Krislyn Wallace, who tallied 11 points and 11 boards.
“This was a tough game,” Binford said. “Northern Arizona really came out with a lot of spark and played us toe-to-toe in the first half. We were able to put a couple of runs together in the second half, and we hit our free throws down the stretch.”
Montana State held a 41-40 advantage with 16:06 remaining in the game, before rattling of eight unanswered points.
Northern Arizona (5-13, 1-3) chipped the margin down to 51-48 with 9:28 left, before the Bobcats countered with a 13-2 run to take a 64-50 lead at the 4:56 mark on a Strand layin.
For the game, MSU shot 39 percent from the field and converted 20-of-22 free throws. The Bobcats also held a 50-37 advantage in rebounding.
NAU was led in the loss by Laura Dinkins with 19 points and four rebounds.
Montana State will travel to Weber State on Thursday.
