Montana State Skiers Finish Fifth at Utah Invitational

Utah won the invitational with 585.5 points. The Utes were followed by Denver 550, Colorado 543, Alaska-Anchorage 442, MSU 413.5, New Mexico 391.5, Nevada 378.5, Whitman 171, Western State 158, and Wyoming 42.
The Bobcats Nordic contingent recorded 121 points as a pair of MSU skiers recorded top five finishes.
In the women’s 10-kilometer freestyle, Claire Rennie finished second overall with a time of 16:09.8 She was followed by Kaelin Kiesel, 20th, 16:59.5; Melina Park, 21st, 16:59.9; Karoline Teien, 28th, 17:36.4; Meredith Gilliland, 32nd, 17:52.1; Fraiser Opel, 34th, 17:57.7; and Korie Steitz, 35th, 18:08.3.
Junior Anders Folleraas put together his best outing of the season, placing fourth in the men’s 15-kilometer freestyle in 27:42.2.
He was followed by Gunnar Kristiansen, 15th, 28:46.3; Nathan Park, 16th, 28:48.0; Bernhard Roenning, 29:30.2; Ryan Scott, 37th, 31:13.1; Tyler Wright 41st, 31:43.2; and Sam Viavant, 46th, 32:18.7.
Montana State’s alpine squad recorded 98.5 points on Saturday, behind the efforts of Toby LaMar, Don Brockett and Ali Leighton.
LaMar and Brockett placed 11th and 12th, respectively in the slalom event. LaMar notched a two-run total of 1:44.56, while Brocket ended 1:45.44.
The duo was followed by Andre Hokholt, who finished 21st in 1:51.28.
Leighton, a freshman from Whistler, BC, placed tenth overall in the giant slalom race with a two-run time of 2:05.71.
She was followed by Victoria Christensen, 18th, 2:07.50; Hannah Victory, 22nd, 2:08.50; Amy Lattimer, 23rd, 2:09.16; Maggie Kraft, 26th, 2:12.04; and Chichi Williams, 38th, 2:28.04.
