Despite Anderson’s Career-High Griz Rally for Win

“We came out with a lot of energy,” Anderson said. “For the first two games everything was golden, and then we got back on our heels. We just didn’t end well, and we did it to us.”
MSU (1-16, 0-5) broke away from a 14-all tie with a 12-2 run to cruise to the opening game win, out-hitting Montana (6-9, 2-3) .279 to .113. The second stanza featured 15 ties and seven lead changes before UM scored the final two points, winning on a MSU hitting error.
“We started off so well and stuck with our defensive schemes,” said MSU head coach Miya Malauulu. “Then we started to get in are own way. The passing went, and we didn’t stay disciplined.”
In the third set, Montana pulled away from a 14-all tie with a 6-1 run and held the lead for the victory. In the final game, the Griz broke away from a 13-all tie with a 7-3 stretch to close out the match.
Aside from Anderson’s hitting numbers, she also tallied a double-double with a team-high 17 digs.
Also in double-digit kills for the Bobcats was Nicole Grypiuk, who matched a career-high with 12 kills. Setter Sarah Allen dished out 41 assists and added 12 digs, while Laura Viren chipped in eight kills, 17 digs and four blocks.
UM was paced by Whitney Hobbs with 16 kills and 11 digs.
