Bobcats Harriers Head to South Bend

“This is one of the great races in the country,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “Thirteen nationally ranked teams will be competing. It will be a great opportunity of our kids.”
The women’s 5000-meter race will begin 2:15 p.m. (MST) at the Burke Memorial Golf Course on the Notre Dame campus. The men’s five-mile event is slated for 3 p.m.
The MSU women will compete in the Blue Division, along side #2 Michigan, #7 Illinois, #11 Providence, #12 Florida State, #16 North Carolina State, #26 Boston College and #27 Notre Dame.
The Bobcats will be led by three upperclassmen, including three-time All-Big Sky performer Elisabeth Driscoll.
“We know so little about the teams we will be racing against, that our main focus is the team,” Kennedy said. “We need to get our 4, 5, and 6 kids closer to the top three. We also need our top three to run better than what they did at the MSU Invitational, two weeks ago.
“We have had great workouts,” Kennedy added. “The back of the pack was running with the front group, and that’s encouraging.”
The men’s race will feature six nationally ranked squads, including #9 North Carolina State, #12 Notre Dame, #14 Providence, #20 Brigham Young, #24 Florida State and #25 Michigan.
The Bobcat men will rely heavily on the performances of Nick Atwood, Matt Adams and Graydon Curry. The trio finished 1-2-3 at the MSU Invitational.
“The men have the same chemistry as the women,” Kennedy said. “We have three kids running at a high level, and we need to have the next three closing the gap. Our younger guys have one race under their belts, so I have to believe they will have more confidence heading into the meet.”
Devin McDowell, who ran in MSU’s top five last fall, will sit out the Notre Dame Invitational while nursing an injury.
