Utah State Hands Bobcats 3-0 Setback

“We had too many unforced errors,” said MSU head coach. “We gave them 18 points without even taking a swing. We have to establish a level of play and keep it consistent over the course of a match.”
Utah State (2-3) out-hit the Bobcats .231 to .133 to win the opening game.
In the second stanza, Montana State (0-6) held a 17-14 advantage before the Aggies rattled off an 11-1 run. Trailing 29-22, MSU scored five unanswered points to pull to within 29-27 before Osterloh’s kill gave USU the win.
In the final set, Utah State held a commanding 20-11 lead, before MSU fought back with nine straight points to even the score at 20-20. The run was highlighted by a pair of Laura Viren kills.
With the game knotted a 24-all, Utah State scored three unanswered points. The Aggies held a three-point cushion at 29-26, before the Bobcats closed to within 29-28. Osterloh’s 20th kill gave USU the match.
“I liked our energy and the way we battled,” Malauulu said. “However, we missed a lot of opportunities at inopportune times.”
Freshman Wendy Doutre paced the Bobcats with nine kills, while Viren added eight kills and a team-best nine digs.
In the first match of the day, Texas A&M defeated Washington State 3-0.
