Bobcats Open Camp on Monday

Rob Ash has been waiting for Monday since he became Montana State's football coach on June 11, but part of him wishes it was still weeks away.
"It's a quandary," he says of the conflicting emotions of eagerness to begin fall camp and a desire for more preparation time. "But I think the bottom line is that my staff is ready to get out of the meeting rooms and onto the practice fields, even if it means we're out of time to plan. It's time to practice."
Ready or not, Monday marks the beginning of fall football camp at Montana State and on many other campuses around the nation. For Ash, it marks the first day his staff will have a chance to coach the Bobcats, just 26 days before MSU opens the 2007 season at Texas A&M. "I know the staff is ready to go, and the players are ready," Ash said. "I'm looking forward to establishing relationships with the players. We've gotten to know a lot of the kids away from the field, but that working relationship you need between coaches and players is so important to practicing and playing the right way."
Ash said the initial order of business is for Bobcat players to learn the new language patterns of the program. "We will work hard on the vocabulary," he said. "There will be a lot of memorization. It's still blocking and tackling, man coverage and zone coverage, but the vocabulary will be new to the players so we'll spend a lot of time on that."
The Bobcats are scheduled to practice each afternoon next week at 2:30 pm, with a pair of practices on Saturday.
