MSU Announces Track Award Winners

All-America Ellie Rudy earned Outstanding Field Event Honors to headline Montana State's 2007 Outdoor Track and Field Awards.
Rudy set MSU and Big Sky records by clearing 14-2.5, the third-highest mark in NCAA Division I this season. The junior from Woodland Park, Colo., earned her fifth straight Big Sky pole vault title, finishing third in the NCAA Midwest Region and fourth at the NCAA Championships. She is a three-time All-America.
Kylee Zent, a sophomore from Bridger, won MSU's Top Gun award on the women's squad, scoring 88 points in 2007. Bozeman junior Elisabeth Driscoll logged the seventh-fastest time school history in the 5000 with a 17:01.33 to earn Outstanding Track Athlete honors, Tabby Spencer of Kalispell finished eighth in the javelin at the Big Sky Championships to earn Top Freshman honors, and redshirt freshman Alli Jones of Harlowton finished third in the Big Sky hammer throw, qualifying for the regional meet with a 182-7 to land Most Improved honors.
Senior thrower Tanner Rauk of Kalispell scored 66 points to earn Top Gun honors on the men's team. Ben Soukup, a freshman from Sheridan, Wyo., finished third at the Big Sky in the 110 hurdles, scoring the third-most points on the team, to land Outstanding Track Athlete honors. Freshman Nick Lam from Billings won the Big Sky javelin championship, finishing third in the Midwest Regional meet and 15th at the NCAA Championships to earn Outstanding Field Event Athlete and Outstanding Freshman honors. Graydon Curry and Dustin Degen shared the Outstanding Freshman award. Curry, a redshirt freshman from Gillette, Wyo., took over a minute off his 5000 m time and finished sixth at the Big Sky meet, while Degen, a sophomore from Missoula, made a 15-foot improvement to 210-2, finishing fourth at the Big Sky meet.
