A Class Above: Bobcat Women’s Basketball Squad Ranks Fourth Academically

South Dakota State ranked first overall with a 3.693 gpa, followed by Northern Iowa 3.624 and St. Bonaventure’s 3.594. Brown University rounded out the top five with a 3.517 grade point average.
The Bobcats ranked fifth in the nation with a 3.459 gpa in 2005-06.
“We’re ecstatic because it was a goal to be ranked in the top five in the nation.” said MSU women’s basketball coach Tricia Binford. “Receiving this honor shows how dedicated our players are-- both on and off the court. Our girls are focusing on our No. 1 priority, and that’s to graduate with a degree from our outstanding University.”
In all, eleven Bobcats earned All-Big Sky Conference academic accolades this season, including Brandie Buckless, Whitney Connolly, Amanda DeHaan, Nubia Garcia, Erin Goodman, Callie Goff, Scotta Morton, Alyssa Nelson, Anne Phippard, Erica Perry and Jamie Thornton.
The award recognizes teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the 2006-07 season.
The top 10 NCAA Division I schools were:
1). South Dakota State (3.693)
2). Northern Iowa (3.624)
3). St. Bonaventure’s (3.594)
4). Montana State (3.557)
5). Brown (3.517)
6). Oakland (3.515)
7). Liberty (3.508)
8). Eastern Washington (3.471)
9). Niagara (3.457)
10). Eastern Illinois (3.442)
The only other Big Sky school to ranked among the top 25 (along side MSU and Eastern Washington) was Northern Arizona, 22nd, 3.307.
