A trio of in-state track standouts joined the Montana State program Tuesday.
Olivia Rider of Livingston finished with the second-best marks in the state in the 100 and 200 this spring. The Park High standout finished second at the state meet in the 100 and 200 after winning both events at the State A meet a year ago. "Olivia's favorite race is the 200, and losing Torey (Scheafer) and Lindsey (Burrington, both seniors) we really needed help in the sprints. She joins Erika Halle (from Manhattan) as freshman sprinters next year, and they'll have to work hard to be competitive in the Big Sky, but I'm excited about their future. Olivia really wants to be a Bobcat, that is something she is very excited about, and I'm thrilled she's joining our program."
Kala Jauquet posted a terrific state meet as a senior, finishing second in the 800 (2:15.3) and 1600 (5:10.2). She posted the second-fastest 800 in Montana this year, and the fourth-fastest 1600. The Butte High product finished fourth in the State AA 800 (2:20.07, a personal best) and sixth in the 1600 (5:15.65) last year, and will also run cross country for the Bobcats next fall. "I'm excited about Kala," Kennedy said. "She's very MSU-oriented, really wants to be a Bobcat, and has had a keen interest in our program. I think her desire to be an architect really pulled her to MSU. She had some great races in the fall (cross country season), but really exploded at the state track meet this spring. She has great range, all the way from the 800 to the 5,000."
Elizabeth Mancuso comes to MSU from Billings Skyview, where she finished fifth in the AA state cross country meet in 2006 with a mark of 18:25 on Helena's three-mile course. "I expect Elizabeth to step in and run right away for us," Kennedy said. "She gives us depth that se've been short on the last couple years. We're excited she's joining us."
