Injury Ends Groves' Career

Montana State running back Evin Groves retired from football on Tuesday due to recurring knee injuries, Montana State coach Rob Ash said.
Groves rushed for 210 yards in an injury-plagued 2006 season, playing in four of MSU's 13 games. He established himself as one of the Big Sky's bright stars in 2005, gaining 435 yards, second-most in school history by a freshman. His 143 yards against Montana was the most by a freshman in Cat-Griz history. He played in eight games and started four in 2005, missing three games with a knee injury.
"It's easy to see on tape that Evin is an outstanding running back," Ash said, "and he is also a fine person. He plans to remain in school and complete his education, and we wish him the best."
Groves is one of four Bobcats who became unavailable to Ash this week. Safety Abraham Muheize, who transferred to Montana State in January, told the Bobcat staff he will return to Grossmont College for the fall semester. A pair of offensive linemen will remain in school but miss the 2007 season. Senior Adam DeCock will continue to work toward his degree, while junior Louis Saucedo also plans to remain in the program, with the possibility of returning in 2008. Saucedo started all 13 games at right guard last season, while DeCock played as a reserve during his three seasons in the program.
"We have some needs to fill," Ash said. "We face some personnel decisions I didn't anticipate, but we're working hard at filling those positions."
