Coming Events:
May 9-12: Big Sky Conference Championships at Pocatello, Idaho
The 2007 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place on Idaho State University's campus in Pocatello, Idaho, on May 9-12. Heptathlon and decathlon competitions are on the 9th and 10th, while running and field events are on the 11th and 12th.
Last Week:
Ellie Rudy did it again, setting Montana State and Big Sky Conference records with a pole vault of 14-2.5 in Bozeman's Tom Gage Classic Friday. Rudy's performance highlighted a productive meet for athletes from Montana State and Montana. MSU's Kylee Zent improved her shot put season's best by nearly a foot with a 48-10.25 in the shot put, while Montana's Allie Brosch narrowly missed hitting the regional qualifying mark winning the 5000 meters with a 17:24.07. Montana State's throwers crew posted a solid evening. Nathan Palmer and Jesse Allen each surpassed the NCAA Midwest Regional qualifying marks in the hammer, as the Bobcat throws crew won six of the eight throwing events.
Tennis
Denise Albrecht Named Big Sky Coach of the Year
Montana State head coach Denise Albrecht was named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year, as announced by the league office and voted on by the eight women’s tennis coaches last week. Albrecht, who completed her seventh season at MSU, led the Bobcats to an 11-12 overall mark and a 5-2 Big Sky Conference slate. Montana State advanced to the semifinals of the 2007 Big Sky Championships, before bowing out to Northern Arizona. MSU finished the 2007 campaign winning eight of its last ten matches.
A native of Great Falls, Albrecht was a top collegiate player for the University of Utah from 1980-84. She guided the Utes to the 1982 Western Athletic Conference title.
Hernandez, Dybala and McDonald Named to Big Sky First-Team
Women’s tennis standout Nuria Hernandez was named to the Big Sky Conference First-Team for the third consecutive season, the league office announced last week. In addition, Jakub Dybala and Kyle McDonald earned first-team accolades, while Nicole Luetolf and Laura Villegas were named to the league’s second-team.

Montana State Women’s Basketball Team Posts 11th Best Turn Around
The NCAA announced its most improved basketball teams of the 2006-07 season, and the Montana State women’s squad ranked 11th on the final listing. The Bobcats, under first-year head coach Tricia Binford, recorded a 3-23 ledger during the 2005-06 campaign. This winter, Binford guided MSU to a 13-16 overall mark, which included an 8-8 Big Sky mark and a conference postseason appearance. MSU was 8.5 games ahead of the 2005-06 season. Oklahoma State notched the most improved record in the country. The Cowgirls went from a 6-22 mark to a 20-11 record this season. It was an improvement of 12.5 games.
The Montana State women’s basketball squad will take an international tour to the Bahamas on May 13.
