Hoopin' it up in the Bahamas- Day II

This is Callie Goff, and I’m going to tell you about our first day in the Bahamas.
We managed to pull ourselves out of bed after a long day of traveling to eat breakfast and start the fun. Coach Binford told us that we were going to postpone the tour of the caverns, so that we could spend the day at the resort, relaxing. I was excited for the quality tanning hours I was about to get. Most of use inhaled breakfast so that we could head to the pool.
It is very muggy here, but still very hot and sunny. I’m not going to lie-- I spent most of the day being a bum by the pool. Many of my teammates explored our new surroundings. We checked out the beach and the water, which is really clear.
A lot of the girls decided to rent jet skis and of course, being the negotiators that we are, talked the renting price down to a steal. I think many of us are starting to realize how expensive food is in the Bahamas.
For those of you who don’t know, I am quite the coffee lover; however, it was hard even for me to shell out almost $6 for a cup of Joe.
Some people ate lunch by the pool, whereas others went searching for a good deal. Not surprisingly, Erica (Perry) led this group of bargain hunters into the town. Word is that Erica didn’t just find a cheap meal, but a free one. That girl is always making friends!
Most of the girls spent the day laying in the sun, or if you were Erin (Goodman) you got buried up to your neck in sand. Don’t worry we eventually dug her out.
By the afternoon, we all headed to our rooms to get ready for practice. I wasn’t so much dreading practice, more the fact that we had to take that bus again to get there.
After running multiple red lights, venturing into the WRONG lane a few too many times, and finally just going over the median all together into oncoming traffic- I decided that it was probably best to just close my eyes.
We arrived at the gym (alive) to start practice. It took awhile to refresh our memories on the plays and not look like chickens running around with our heads cut off. We went over some of the differences in how the game is played at the international level. The three-point line is farther from the basket and the key is the shape of a trapezoid.
We are having a great time, but we have a mission to compete and win all four games. By the end of practice I felt like I had lost over 3 lbs in sweat.
After practice, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.
We walked a short distance to a restaurant called Johnny Canoe’s. It was still really nice outside and the restaurant was open so that we could feel the breeze. Dinner was good, especially if you are a seafood lover because it is so fresh.
Believe it or not, no one really got sunburned; even Jamie (Thornton) is turning a nice shade of brown. Well that was pretty much our day- stay tuned for the next journal by Brandie Buckless.
By the way, everyone’s bags finally arrived so we all have swimsuits and clothes.
