Bobcats Land In-State Track Standouts

Kathleen Gilboy of Helena Capital brings outstanding credentials to the Bobcat cross country and track squads, MSU head coach Dale Kennedy said. The two-time state cross country champion (2005, '06) ran away from the field in that event last fall. She also finished third in the 3200 and seventh in the 1600 at the 2006 state track meet, and joins early signee Carly Selleck of Billings West. "She is running very well this spring," Kennedy said of Gilboy, "and she really likes competing in cross country. She and Carly Selleck give us two outstanding young distance runners to go with our experienced runners in cross country next fall, which is exciting."
Erika Halle of Manhattan Christian missed her junior season after suffering an ankle injury in basketball, but finished second in the state as a sophomore in the 100 m, 200 m and 400 m. She has posted best marks of 12.53 in the 100, 25.72, in the 200 and 60.16 in the 400.
Her aunt, Tawny Arnds, remains in second place on MSU's all-time heptathlon list. "Erika is a very good athlete," Kennedy said. "She's excited about joining our program, and we're real excited to add her to our sprint crew."
Havre's Lena Suek won 2006 Class A State Championships in the discus and javelin, and last summer won California's prestigious Golden West Invitational. She has posted best marks of 139-4 in the discus and 138-9 in the javelin. "Lena is a very mature person," said MSU throws coach Mike Carignan, "and very serious. She's obviously a very good athlete, and seems to be very self-disciplined. I know that she will be a good student, and think that she fits very well in our program."
