Lumberjacks Snap Bobcat Women’s Tennis Streak at Four

The victory gives the Lumberjacks sole possession of second place in the Big Sky Conference, while the Bobcats drop one game back in third.
“It was a battle; right down to the last match,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “I thought we fought hard and some opportunities, but we didn’t get the breaks we needed. Northern Arizona is a very good team.”
NAU opened the match winning at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to earn the first point.
Montana State answered back as Nuria Hernandez, Nicole Luetolf and Laura Villegas all won in straight sets to give the Bobcats a 3-1 advantage.
“I was really proud of the way Nuria and Nicole played at the top two spots,” Albrecht said. “They also combined to give us our only victory in doubles. They were on their game.”
Northern Arizona rallied from a two-point deficit, winning at Nos. 3 and 6 to tie the score at 3-all. NAU’s Paij Porter secured the win with a 7-6, 6-3 decision over Remy Clark at the No. 5 spot.
The MSU women will host Weber State and MSU-Billings on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
