Bobcats Battle Utah Powers in Track on Saturday

Montana State travels south this weekend, competing in the high-powered Weber State Invitational on Saturday. The Bobcats join an outstanding field, including perennial top 10 program BYU, which brings a full team to Ogden this weekend. Southern Utah and Utah Valley State also bring outstanding programs to Stewart Stadium on Saturday.

This Week
Montana State travels to Ogden, UT for the Weber State Invitational. The meet begins at 10 am and runs through the afternoon. BYU, Utah (women), Southern Utah and Utah Valley comprise Saturday’s field.
Emerging
A pair of young stars continue to establish themselves for the Bobcats. Sophomore pole vaulter Nick Morriw posted a season’s best of 15-8 last weekend at Missoula, and according to Bobcat coach Dale Kennedy looked strong in missing at 16-0. Freshman high jumpre Charlie Hirning nearly cleared 6-11, Kennedy said. Hirning announced his arrival earning all-conference honors at the Big Sky Indoor Championships in Bozeman this winter.
Health Report
The Bobcats officially lost distance runner Matt Adams (stress fracture) for the season last week, while distance runners Jayme Larson (appendix) and Carrie Gottschalk (hip) are likely out this week.
Red Jerseys
Several Bobcats stand to miss the 2007 outdoor season to redshirt... sprinters Dan Johnson and Steve Heberly, vaulter Thomas Seeley and jumper Kevin Ludwig on the men’s side, and pole vaulters Brittany Spiers on the women’s side will all retain an extra season of outdoor eligibility by missing 2007.
Heavy Artillery
Montana State has again assembled a strong group of throwers in 2007. Kylee Zent is second in the Big Sky in the shot put, while Alli Jones is fourth. Karen Helvey leads the Big Sky in the hammer throw, with Alli Jones second and Ashley Jones third. Kim Berg is second in the javelin. On the men’s side Tanner Rauk is third in the shot put and Jess Allen fourth, while Nick Lam is fourth in the javelin and Nathan Palmer third in the hammer throw.
