Men’s and Women’s Tennis Head to BSC Tourney
Coming Events:
Apr. 26-28: Big Sky Conference Tournament hosted by Sacramento State
The bracket for the 2007 Big Sky Men's and Women's Tennis Championship is set. Competition will take place in Sacramento, Calif. on April 27-29 ... The women's quarterfinals begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. In the first match, No. 3-seeded Montana State takes on the No. 6 seed, Weber State. MSU beat Weber earlier in the season, 7-0. Eastern Washington, seeded No. 4, will play the No. 5-seeded Montana Grizzlies in the second quarterfinal match. First and second-seeded Sac State and Northern Arizona have first round byes... For the men, No. 3-seeded Eastern Washington matches up against No. 6 Weber State in the first quarterfinal slated for 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The No. 4-seeded Lumberjacks play No. 5-seeded Montana State in the second men's quarterfinal. Earlier in the season, the ‘Cats dropped a close match to NAU. First and second seeded Sacramento State and Montana have first round byes. A full bracket is viewable at www.bigskyconf.com.
Last Week:
The Griz took the ‘Cat women down to the wire at the Bobcat Anderson Tennis Center last weekend before MSU emerged victorious. After the MSU women earned the doubles point, they received a match deciding victory from McKenzie Hilmer at No. 6 singles to defeat Montana 4-3. The men fell to Montana, 2-5 as Stuart Wing, Montana’s number one singles player, dealt MSU’s Jakub Dybala his first conference loss of the season.
The following day, both men’s and women’s squads easily defeated Idaho State 7-0 with only one singles match going three sets in each of the men’s and women’s events.
Rudy Sets New Pole Vault Record
Ellie Rudy continued her exceptional 2007 by setting a Big Sky Conference pole vault record at Idaho State's Spring Fest Track and Field Meet Saturday, while Bobcat distance runners posted outstanding marks at the Oregon Invitational. Rudy won the pole vault at Idaho State with a school- and league-record vault of 14-1.25, matching her winning mark at the NCAA National Championship. Mike Green finished sixth in the decathlon at ISU with 5,633 points, qualifying for the Big Sky Conference meet. At Oregon, three Bobcat distance runners posted personal best marks. Elisabeth Driscoll set a personal best and vaulted to seventh on MSU's all-time top 10 list with a 17:01.33 in the open 5000, while Carrie Gottschalk finished 10th (17:32.76). Ashley Hadway (17:16.97 for 13th in the Invitational 5000), Kayla Larson (13th, in the Invitational Steeplechase, 10:59.54) and Nick Atwood (6th in the Open 5000, 14:33.58, a 44-second personal best) all improved their life-best marks.
Track and Field Coming Events:
Apr. 28- MSU vs. UM Dual at Missoula, 10:00 a.m.
Montana State travels to Missoula this weekend for the annual outdoor dual with Montana. The scored meet pits both the men’s and women’s squads in head-to-head competition in each event. No decathlon or pentathlon event is slated.
Football
The annual Triangle Classic spring football game takes place this Saturday at Memorial Stadium at Great Falls High. Tickets are available from the Bobcat Club at 994-6926 or at the gate. The game starts at 2:00 p.m.and will be broadcast on Altitude.

Golf
Last Week:
The Montana State golfers finished their season last week placing seventh in the conference tournament at Phoenix. Junior Kelly Gillum placed tenth in the contest after sitting in third after the first round. Gillum was also chosen second team all-conference. Head coach Brittany Basye returns her full squad of golfers for next year’s season.
