Bobcat Men’s Tennis Team Hosts Two Big Sky Matches

The Montana State men’s tennis team will be at home for the first time since defeating MSU-Billings on March 2.
The Bobcats will host a pair of crucial Big Sky Conference matches.
MSU will open the weekend against Weber State on Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center. The Bobcats will conclude its home-stand against Northern Arizona on Sunday at 10 a.m.
“This is an important weekend for us in terms of positioning ourselves in the Big Sky standings,” said MSU men’s coach Mike Phillips. “Northern Arizona, MSU and Weber State are currently sitting 4-5-6 in the league standings.”
The Bobcats are 1-2 in Big Sky play and have been led by its top two singles players, Jakub Dybala and Kyle McDonald.
Dybala, a sophomore from Lodz, Poland, has posted a 7-6 mark at No. 1 singles, while McDonald, a junior from Casper, Wyo., is 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Dybala and McDonald also combine to form MSU’s No. 1 doubles tandem. The twosome has posted a 6-5 record at the top doubles spot.
“Our upperclassmen have been setting the tone,” Phillips said. “In order for us to be successful, we’ll need our freshman to step-up this weekend. The exciting part is that they are more than capable.”
Along with Dybala and McDonald, junior Justin Hauck has been playing at No. 4 singles. Four freshmen, Anton Leonenko, David Kovas, Igor Vuckovic and Myles Perkins have also seen significant time in MSU’s singles ladder.
The Montana State women’s team will be out of action this weekend. They had originally been scheduled to play in the Boise State Spring Classic.
