Golfers Set to Host Desert Classic

The ‘Cats will warm up with a dual match with Weber State on Saturday at the host course. The 20 team field for the Classic includes conference teams Montana, Weber State, Idaho State, Sacramento State, Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona. NAU won the event in 2006 led by returner Sophia Choi, the medalist for the 2006 event.
MSU will be led by junior Kelly Gillum and sophomore LaRae Smith. Smith edged Gillum at last year’s tourney finishing in a tie for 24th while Gillum finished 30th. The Palm Valley Golf Course is also the site of this year’s Big Sky Conference Championship in April. The par 72 course is 6,160 yards long. The event begins Monday with a shot gun start at 1:00 p.m.
