Montana State Skiers in 8th after Opening Day of NCAA Championships

MSU’s strong women’s Nordic squad paced the Bobcats as sophomore Claire Rennie missed All-America status by one spot, finishing 11th in the five-kilometer freestyle in a time of 14:49.3.
Northern Michigan’s Lindsey Williams captured the NCAA title in 13:50.4. NMU swept the top three spots in the women’s race.
Also contributing for the Bobcats were Jamie Woelk, 18th, 15:02.1, and Mandy Bowden, 28th, 15:27.3.
Northern Michigan sits atop the standings after the first Nordic event with 189 points, followed by Dartmouth 166, Denver 146, Utah 143, Colorado 131, Alaska-Fairbanks 106, Alaska-Anchorage 100, Montana State 92, Middlebury 87, and Vermont 83.5.
In the men’s 10-kilometer freestyle, MSU was paced by Nathan Park. The Bozeman native placed 24th in 26:56.4. Senior Chris Coe finished 27th overall in 27:20.0.
Rene Reisshauer of Denver won the men’s title in 24:52.2.
