Montana State junior Ellie Rudy set meet and field records with a 13-4.5 in the pole vault in Saturday's Al Manuel Invitational in Missoula.
Rudy was one of five Bobcats to qualify for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships at the team's outdoor season opener. Sophomore Kylee Zent (Bridger) recorded a 47-3.5 in the shot put, Karen Helvey (jr., Thompson Falls) threw the hammer 180-9, and Kim Berg (159-9, jr., Kremlin) and Nick Lam (202-7, fr., Billings) qualified in the javelin.
"We didn't perform well in the duals," said MSU coach Dale Kennedy, "but we had outstanding individual performances. We knew we'd have a tough time competing in the duals with as many injuries and redshirts as we have, but we're all excited about some of the individual efforts."
Montana swept the Bobcats in the duals, winning 120-76 on the men's side and 110-81 in the women's dual. MSU's women beat Eastern Washington 89-88, falling to EWU on the men's side 103-89.
In addition to the regional qualifiers, MSU qualified 14 women and 13 men for the Big Sky Conference Championships.
