Bobcat Women Sweep Colorado Matches

“We had a great weekend and the win over Northern Colorado was huge,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “Against UNC it was unbelievably windy, but the kids battled the elements and worked hard and it was great to come out on top.”
With the two victories, Montana State (5-10) is on a four-match win streak.
Against the Bears, the Bobcats were paced by junior Katy Proietti, who posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Karen Groll. In addition, Proietti combined with Allison Fey to post an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles.
MSU captured all three double matches to earn the first point. UNC won at Nos. 1, 2 and 5 singles, but it wasn’t enough. Along with Proietti’s victory, the Bobcats took matches at Nos. 4 and 6 singles.
Sophomore McKenzie Hilmer’s 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles over Christina Shelly secured the win for MSU.
On Friday, MSU dominated Colorado Christian, dropping one game the entire match- that coming in doubles play. The Bobcats recorded an unprecedented sweep in singles, winning all six spots by 6-0, 6-0 decisions.
“We are starting to find our rhythm and are playing good tennis,” Albrecht said. “Next weekend will be even tougher as we face Northern Arizona in a battle for second place in the Big Sky.”
The Bobcats will host NAU, Weber State and MSU-Billings next weekend at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
