THE STORYLINE
With the glow of Montana State’s 2006 season - and the program’s first Division I Playoff win since 1984 - fresh, the Bobcats open spring drills on April 5 (or thereabouts) with a wealth of talent and experience. MSU’s linebacker, running back and tight end groups return every player who logged game action in 2006. In fact, eighth-year head coach Mike Kramer needs to fill only four positions (left guard and two receiver slots on offense, one safety position on defense) with players that weren’t de facto starters a year ago. With the offensive and defensive foundations in place, Kramer sees minor tinkering, and the establishment of a go-to receiver and every-day safeties as the primary targets for spring ball.
2006 HIGHLIGHTS
• Montana State won eight games for the first time since 1984, posting the school’s fifth straight winning season
• By finishing 6-2 in Big Sky Conference play, MSU posted its sixth straight winning season in conference action, the longest such string in school history, and finished in the top three in the league standings for the fifth straight season
• MSU’s run to the Division I Playoff Quarterfinals featured the team’s first home playoff game and first playoff win since 1984
A LOOK AT 2007
• For the second straight season, Montana State opens spring camp without the services of a returning All-Big Sky player
• No Bobcat defensive player earned all-conference honors for the second straight year in 2006
• After entering last season without a returning starter at quarterback, the Bobcats open 2007 with two - Jack Rolovich claimed starting honors with a strong showing in starting MSU’s final seven games of 2006, while Cory Carpenter was 3-3 as a starter before suffering an ankle injury that effectively ended his season
• Jack Rolovich joined Kelly Bradley and Paul Dennehy as MSU’s only quarterbacks with playoff wins
• MSU’s playoff win over Furman last fall was its first since 1984
• MSU rides the wave of five straight winning seasons for the first time since 1956-64
• MSU finished 2006 ranked #10 in The Sports Network poll, the school’s highest season-ending ranking since the 1984 National Championship

Sonny Holland Classic: Saturday, April 28, Great Falls Memorial Stadium, 2 pm
Practice days: 4 pm at the MSU practice fields, with daily and weekly schedule as weather dictates
