Montana State Skiers Finish 9th at NCAA Championships

The 9th place showing was the best for a Bobcat squad since the resurrection of the women’s program in 1994.
Dartmouth won its third national title and its first since 1976 as the Big Green totaled 698 points.
Dartmouth was followed in the top 10 by Denver 648, Colorado 592, Utah 536, Vermont 400.5, New Mexico 390, Middlebury 390, Northern Michigan 380, MSU 310, and Nevada 288.5.
Dartmouth’s victory marked the first time since 1994 that an Eastern squad has won a national title.
The alpine slalom races concluded the championships on Saturday.
MSU’s highest finish belonged to Spela Bertoncelj who placed 18th with a two-run total of 1:51.16. Also scoring points for the Bobcats were Carmel McElroy, 24th, 1:54.18; and Amy Lattimer, 33rd, 2:56.62.
Malin Hemmingsson of New Mexico won the women’s slalom title in 1:45.77.
Freshman Toby LaMar paced the Bobcats men’s squad, finishing 19th in a time of 1:47.58. Don Brockett placed 25th in 1:48.88.
Adam Cole of Denver captured the men’s crown in 1:43.36.
The 2008 NCAA Championships will be hosted by Montana State University.
