Bobcat Skiers in Tight Race at New Mexico Invite

The Bobcats accrued 202 points, and are only 45 points from second place.
Denver leads the invitational with 306.5 points, followed by Colorado 247, New Mexico 235, Utah 235, MSU 202, Nevada 186, Alaska-Anchorage 184, Western State 144 and Whitman 87.5
MSU was paced on Friday by its women’s nordic contingent.
Freshman Jamie Woelk placed third overall in the 5-kilometer classic, finishing the course in 18:44.2. She was followed by Claire Rennie, 10th, 19:20.6; Mandy Bowden, 18th, 19:54.7; and Karoline Teien, 20th, 20:02.0.
The Bobcat men’s team was led by Chris Coe, who placed 16th covering the 10-kilometer course in 31:48.8. Also contributing for MSU were Nathan Park, 18th, 31:59.2 and Tim Downey, 22nd, 32:12.6.
In alpine action, Montana State was led by All-America performer Spela Bertoncelj, who placed 8th in the giant slalom with a two-run time of 2:00.86.
Also placing for the Bobcats were Chichi Williams, 13th, 2:02.07; Amy Lattimer, 16th, 2:02.58; Gillian Hearn, 25th, 2:04.22; and Carmel McElroy, 28th, 2:05.40.
In men’s action, the Bobcats were paced by Don Brockett, who finished 16th with a two-run total of 1:58.05.
He was followed by Andre Hokholt, 21st, 1:58.54; Toby Lamar, 22nd, 1:58.65; Cory Harris, 26th, 1:59.78; Kyle Taylor, 28th, 2:00.27 and Tyler Smedsrud, 3:02.83.
The New Mexico Invitational will finish with the slalom and freestyle races on Saturday.
