With two weekend home wins, the Bobcats vault to a tie for second place in the BSC. Tied with records of 6-4 are Montana State, University of Montana, and Idaho State. The Bengals are on the road at NAU and Northern Colorado. Montana is home against Sac State and on the road against the Bobcats. MSU has the potential to knock Montana out of the BSC second-place tie with two wins this week.
This is the first meeting of the season between Sac State and MSU. The Hornets are 3-7 in conference play, having beaten Northern Colorado, Portland State and Montana. Montana won the first meeting of ‘Cat-Griz dual in January at Missoula, 73-65.
Last Week:
Feb. 1: beat Eastern Washington, 84-67
Feb. 3: beat Portland State, 79-71
Carson Durr notched his first career double-double and Montana State's switching defenses held Eastern Washington to 18 points below its season scoring average in the 84-67 Bobcat win. In a game that began without a field goal for three minutes, Montana State's balanced offense heated up as the night progressed. In the end, five Bobcats scored in double figures and the team shot 50% for the game, holding Eastern to 41% from the floor.
In a microcosm of Montana State's season, the Bobcats struggled from the outset, stabilized, and staged a furious rally to earn a 79-71 win over Portland State. Trailing 58-47 with 11:50 to play, Mecklen Davis started and finished a 16-3 run that gave the 'Cats a lead they would hold throughout. Carson Durr finished with nine points on three three-pointers, but two of those were among the biggest shots in the game. The senior from Roberts scored his first points of the night on a triple with 10:48 to play to drag the Viking lead into single-digits at 60-53, and his second brought MSU within one at 60-59.

The Bobcats continue their road trip this week at Sacramento (Wednesday) and Missoula (Sunday). This is MSU’s first meeting with the Hornets, who are 1-7 in league play. The ‘Cats lost the first meeting with the Griz at Bozeman, 67-86.

Montana State senior Whitney Connolly came off the bench to record 16 points and ten rebounds as the Bobcats snapped a five-game losing streak to Eastern Washington with a 72-57 victory, Thursday night. Connolly connected on five-of-10 from the field and was 5-of-5 from the free throw line. In addition, the Ennis native added two assists, a block and a steal. Also reaching double-figures for Montana State were Rebecca Mercer and Alyssa Nelson with 12 points, apiece.
The Montana State women’s basketball squad let a 10-point second-half lead slip from its hands, as Portland State rallied for a 55-53 win, Saturday afternoon. Krislyn Wallace paced the Bobcat attack with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Also in double-figures for MSU were Mercer 14, Nubia Garcia 12, and Alyssa Nelson 11.

Feb. 9 at the Mountain States Games; Pocatello, Idaho
Bobcats travel to Pocatello again this week for the Mountain States Games to try and add to their already 36 qualifying BSC performances. They host the Bobcat Open Feb. 17.
Last Week:
Montana State University track and field athletes made it two in a row against Weber State with another victory at the Idaho State Dual Invite at Pocatello, Idaho on Friday. In the strong field, MSU men were victorious over Brigham Young, Utah Valley State, and Weber State, while losing the dual scored event to host Idaho State. The MSU women’s team was also victorious over Weber in dual scoring. Five teams competed in the dual event including host Idaho State, Weber State, Brigham Young University, and Utah Valley State.

The Montana State men’s tennis team opened its 2007 schedule with a 7-0 setback to Cal Poly, Friday afternoon in Las Vegas. On Saturday, men’s team dropped a pair of matches. Number 66 UNLV handed Montana State a 5-1 loss in the final match of the day. The Bobcats lone win came at No. 2 singles, where sophomore Jakob Dybala posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over UNLV’s Jonathan Hooper. MSU’s Kyle McDonald and Igor Vuckovic went to three sets, before eventually losing the final game. The Bobcats also suffered a 5-2 setback to Southern Mississippi on Saturday morning.
