Strong Finishers Help MSU Track and Field to Dual Victory

In the strong field, MSU men were victorious over Brigham Young, Utah Valley State, and Weber State, while losing the dual scored event to host Idaho State. The MSU women’s team was also victorious over Weber in dual scoring. Five teams competed in the dual event including host Idaho State, Weber State, Brigham Young University, and Utah Valley State.
Individually, the Bobcat men’s throwers again proved their prowess over the rest of the field. The men finished with five of the top ten places in both the weight throw and the shot put with Tanner Rauk and Jesse Allen finishing two and three in the shot, and Allen and Nathan Palmer finishing two and three in the weight throw. The Bobcat men also had strong showings in the jumping events where freshman Bobby Biskupiak placed fourth in the pole vault followed by teammates Thomas Seely (t-6th) and Nick Morrow (t-6th). Senior Kevin Ludwig won the men’s triple jump with a leap of 46-9, and freshman Charlie Hirning placed fourth in the high jump. The Bobcat men’s 4 X 400 relay team took third in the event.
In the sprints and distances, Steve Heberly placed fourth in the 60-meter and third in the 200-meter. Dan Johnson placed first in the 400 with 48.79 and fifth in the 200-meter. The sophomore distance duo of Matt Beamer and Matt Adams placed three and four in the mile run. Devin McDowell was fourth in the 3000.
On the women’s side, Ellie Rudy continued her elite pole vault performances with a first place vault of 12-5.25. Sophomore Kylee Zent also continued her dominance in the shot put placing first with a toss of 47-2.25. Teammate Allison Jones was third. In the weight throw, Karen Helvey placed second at 56-5.25.
Senior sprinter Torey Schaefer scored a double point performance placing sixth in the 60-meter and fourth in the 200-meter. All conference distance runner Elisabeth Driscoll placed fourth in the mile with a season best 5:15.05. In the women’s 3000, the Bobcats scored two top five performances with Ashley Hadway placing second and Carrie Gottschalk placing fourth.
