Montana State travels to Pocatello, Idaho for its final conference game of the season Tuesday. In the first meeting between the two teams at Bozeman, the ‘Cats were victorious 58-57. In that game, MSU had to contend with a pair of double-digit efforts, one by starter David Schroeder and the other by reserve Logan Kinghorn. Schroeder leads the Bengals in scoring averaging 16.9 ppg. Idaho State leads the conference in scoring defense, only allowing 66.9 ppg. MSU is still in the run to host a playoff game for the conference tournament, and is assured a berth in the BSC event.

MSU downed Northern Colorado 89-66 Wednesday in an offensive explosion at Worthington Arena. Seniors Carson Durr and Nick Dissly each scored 24 points, a career-high for Durr and Dissly's seventh 20-point game of the season.
Montana State gave NAU everything it wanted Saturday, before falling to the preseason Big Sky favorites in overtime. In a game featuring post-season intensity, Northern Arizona outscored Montana State 18-10 in the overtime period to earn a 92-84 win over the Bobcats Sunday afternoon. MSU's three seniors each had Senior Nights to remember. Dissly scored 16 points with eight assists and two blocked shots, six of Durr's seven points came on three-pointers in the last three minutes that spurred MSU's comeback, and Ted Morris had 15 points and 10 boards. Mecklen Davis led MSU with 24 points.

The Bobcat women host Weber State for their final regular season conference game. The Saturday afternoon game will be Senior Day as the MSU faithful bid farewell to seniors Whitney Connolly, Scotta Morton, and Alyssa Nelson. In the first meeting of these two teams earlier in the season, the ‘Cats lost by one point in a game where Rebecca Mercer led MSU with 18 points and three other players were in double figures.

Montana State junior Rebecca Mercer notched a game-high 20 points to guide the Bobcat women’s basketball squad to a 77-49 win at Northern Colorado. Also in double-figures for the Bobcats was Nubia Garcia with 14 points. The MSU victory, coupled with an Eastern Washington loss to Idaho State, ends Montana State’s two-year drought from Big Sky Conference postseason play.
Northern Arizona’s Alyssa Wahl scored a game-high 22 points to lift the Lumberjacks to a 66-47 victory. Montana State shot 30 percent from the field and went 0-of-8 from three-point range. The Bobcats were paced by Rebecca Mercer with a team-high 16 points. Also hitting double-figures were Krislyn Wallace and Alyssa Nelson with ten points apiece. In addition, the 47 points scored by MSU was a season low.
Indoor Track and Field
This Week:
Mar. 3: Last Chance Qualifier, University of Washington
Sprinter Dan Johnson and shot putter Kylee Zent will travel to the Last Chance Qualifier in Seattle on Saturday to attempt best marks and possibly get an invite to the NCAA indoor championships. The NCAA event will be in Fayetteville, Arkansas March 9. Final selection for the event will take place Monday, March 5. MSU has one automatic qualifier in Ellie Rudy in the pole vault, whose 14’0” vault is currently the third best in the nation.

Montana State posted three conference championship performances over the weekend at the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships in Bozeman. Junior Ellie Rudy won the pole vault while setting a new conference and fieldhouse record of 14’0”. Sprinter Dan Johnson made history becoming the first MSU sprinter in track and field history to win an indoor sprint event with his victory in the 400 with a time of 48.44. Sophomore Kylee Zent won the shot put with a shot of 50’10.25”, her first mark over 50 feet this season. Rudy was also chosen the Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the championship.

Mar. 7-10: NCAA Championships at Mt. Washington Valley, New Hampshire
Ten Bobcats qualified for the NCAA Championships- MSU’s largest contingent since the resurrection of the program in 1994. Qualifying for Montana State were Jamie Woelk, Claire Rennie, Mandy Bowden, Chris Coe and Nathan Park in Nordic, and Spela Bertoncelj, Amy Lattimer, Carmel McElroy, Toby LaMar and Don Brockett in alpine. MSU’s fifth place finish was the squad’s best showing since 1994.

Montana State freshman phenom Jamie Woelk finished third to pace the Bobcat ski team to a fifth place showing at the 2007 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Championships, Saturday afternoon. Woelk, who finished third in the freestyle event on Friday, finished the 10-kilometer classic race in 33:10.5. Also finishing in MSU’s top three were Claire Rennie, 13th, 34:33.9, and Mandy Bowden, 15th, 34:44.9. The trio of Woelk, Rennie and Bowden all qualified for the NCAA Championships to be held next month in New Hampshire. On the men’s side, senior two-time NCAA qualifier Chris Coe placed 12th overall, covering the 15-kilometer race in 43:37.3. He was followed by Nathan Park, 23rd, 45:37.0; Daichi Ito, 26th, 46:14.1; and Sam Viavant, 27th, 46:20.7.

The Bobcats travel to Sedona, Arizona this week for the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona. The two-day event includes 18 holes both days. The 18-team field includes conference teams NAU, Montana, and Portland State. Bobcat golfers for the event will be Kelly Gillum, LaRae Smith, Shannon Donnegan, Stephanie Simmons, and Hilary Folkvord.

New Mexico State’s Zeljka Juricek squeezed out a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 win over Montana State’s Nuria Hernandez at No. 1 singles to help the Aggies to a 4-2 victory, Friday afternoon. Montana State captured matches at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, where freshmen Laura Villegas and Ali Griffin each won in three sets.
