“Offensively, we didn’t take good control of the ball,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We couldn’t score and we didn’t execute. This wasn’t the way we wanted to finish the weekend.”
Montana State (12-15, 7-8) shot 30 percent from the field and went 0-of-8 from three-point range. The 0-fer effort from long distance snapped a 97-game streak in which MSU had converted at least one three-pointer.
In addition, the 47 points scored by MSU was a season low.
The Bobcats were paced by Rebecca Mercer with a team-high 16 points. Also hitting double-figures were Krislyn Wallace and Alyssa Nelson with ten points, apiece.
MSU won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding Northern Arizona (17-10, 10-4) 43-38. Montana State sophomore Nubia Garcia led all players with a game-high 11 boards.
With the score tied 8-all at the 16:07 mark of the opening period, NAU went on an 8-1 run, and cruised to a 33-22 lead at intermission.
In the second stanza, the Lumberjacks maintained its double-digit advantage by shooting 48 percent from the floor. MSU was held to only 28 percent from the field.
Montana State will close out the regular-season when it hosts Weber State on Saturday afternoon.
