Dear Diary: Taking the Plunge

The past few weeks have absolutely flown by!
As I look back I find myself wondering where in the world January and half of February went. It seems like just yesterday that we were coming back to Bozeman after our Christmas break. I guess practice, games and school have been keeping us all really busy.
Usually when we go on a road trip we will leave Bozeman in the morning and then have a short practice when we get to our final destination. But when we went down to California to play Sacramento State we changed things up a little bit.
Because we had been playing so many games lately our coaches decided that it would be better if we took the day off from practice and just did a short pool workout instead. When we first heard that we didn’t have practice we were all excited, that was until we saw the pool.
Unfortunately the pool at our hotel was having some off-season repairs done, so we drove down the block to another hotel to use their pool. But when we got there we were all shocked to see that the pool was outside!
Now, we were in California, but it was still February, and not exactly warm outside. The temperature of the water was a balmy 48-degrees, and to top it all off a couple of ducks had made the pool a winter home. They left us some little presents on the bottom of the pool.
All of the guests that looked out their window at the sound of our screams as we plunged into the ice water must have thought we were crazy. This might have been the first time we all actually wished we had practice.
On February 11, I was truly introduced to the Cat-Griz rivalry. Even though we had played the Griz at our place in January, nothing compared to the atmosphere in Missoula.
The energy in the arena was amazing. I had never experienced anything like it before. All the older players had been trying to prepare us new comers for the ruthless fans, but I don’t think they were too bad.
Sure they booed us when we came out, and heaven forbid we would through up a brick, but they didn’t call us fat and they didn’t attack our mama’s, so I guess they were pretty tame. As crazy as it sounds, I really can’t wait until we get to play the Griz again. The energy that those games bring is contagious, I love being in that environment.
On a happy note, I am pleased to announce that our family has welcomed a new member. Coach Scanson and his wife Shannon welcomed their daughter Camryn Nicole into the world on February 5. We were all really excited for them and are now looking forward to having another cute kid to ooh and aah over. At least the Scanson’s wont have any shortage of available babysitters.
