MSU Garners Three of Four BSC Athlete of the Week Honors

The honors went to Tanner Rauk in men’s field, Ellie Rudy in women’s field, and Torey Scheafer in women’s track. Jonnie Gale of Weber State was the men’s track athlete of the week.
“This is a huge honor for us, and each of these kids deserved this award. We feel we are peaking at just the right time and are really looking forward to the conference championships here this weekend,” head coach Dale Kennedy said.
Rauk won the honor for a winning shot put mark at the Bobcat Open of 57’5.75”, just eight inches short of a provisional mark for the NCAA championships. Rauk, a senior from Kalispell, has the second best shot put mark in the conference going into this week’s indoor conference championships here in Bozeman.
Rudy, a junior pole vaulter from Woodland Park, Colorado, reached new heights at the Bobcat Open last weekend with a 13’9.25” mark that is an automatic bid to the NCAA indoor championships in March. Rudy also broke the MSU Fieldhouse and Big Sky Conference records with the vault.
Scheafer, a senior from Billings, garnered the award for winning the 55-meters at the Bobcat Open with a time of 7.24, the fourth best time in the conference this season. Scheafer is an automatic qualifier for the conference tournament in the 55 and 200.
Montana State hosts the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 23-24 at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day.
