Lady Griz Top Bobcats in Missoula

In spite of 17-point efforts by Rebecca Mercer and Whitney Connolly and a game defensive performance that limited Montana to 47% shooting, the Lady Griz beat MSU 84-70 in Missoula Sunday.
MSU falls to 10-13, 5-6 in the league, and remains in the chase for a Big Sky Tournament berth. Montana stands 22-2 overall and 10-1 in the league, and likely locks up the conference regular season title with a win over Weber State at home on Thursday.
Montana jumped out to a 9-2 lead, but the Bobcats clawed back. UM used a 7-0 run to close the half for a 45-38 halftime lead.
Montana shot 50% in the first half, but the Bobcat defense tightened in the second. MSU held the Lady Griz to just 43% shooting in the second half, but Montana sealed the win late with superb free throw shooting, nailing 18-of-22. Connolly and Mercer scored 30 of MSU's 38 first-half ponits.
