MSU Track and Field Makes Impressive Showing at Mountain States Games

Bobcat women placed one-two-three in the weight throw with junior Karen Helvey leading the way with a toss of 53-11.75 followed by freshman Allison Jones (52-05.25) and senior Ashley Jones (52-2.75) in her first meet back since having an appendectomy. The Bobcat women also dominated the shot put event with Kylee Zent finishing first (48-04.50), Amanda Stewart in seventh, and Kristen Schaffer in ninth.
In the women’s sprint events, sophomore Autumn Domitrovich placed fourth in the 60-meter and eighth in the 200. Sophomore Toni Qunell ran fifth in the 60-meter and third in the 400. Three Bobcat runners placed in the top five in the 3000: Ashley Hadway was second with a season best 10:11.52 followed by Elisabth Driscoll (10:21.54)) and Kayla Larson (10:35.78).
The sprinting dynamic duo of juniors Dan Johnson and Steve Heberly finished one-two in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Both registered season best times in the 200 at the meet, Johnson running 21.74 and Heberly running 22.03.
Senior Tanner Rauk finished second in the shot followed by Jesse Allen in thrid and Blake Corneliusen in seventh. Allen won the weight throw with a toss of 58-04.
Ben Soukup placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles and freshman Charlie Hirning placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6-4.
No men’s or women’s pole vault results were available.
MSU hosts the Bobcat Open Feb. 17.
