Bobcat Women Squander 13-Point Halftime Lead at UND

Montana State (5-6) built a 43-30 advantage at intermission behind the efforts of post players Krislyn Wallace and Jamie Thornton with eight points apiece. However, both players were hampered by foul trouble in the second half.
“We had about as good a first half as we’ve had all season,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Unfortunately, we let our defensive intensity slip in the opening of the second half and North Dakota got back in the game.”
North Dakota (13-0), who is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the NCAA Division II poll this week, took its first lead of the second-half with 10:50 remaining and never relinquished control.
MSU senior Rebecca Mercer recorded a team-high 19 points, connecting on eight-of-17 from the field. Also in double-figures for the Bobcats were Krislyn Wallace and Jamie Thornton with 15 and ten points, respectively.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 44 percent from the field, while the Fighting Sioux hit 67 percent, including a whopping 84 percent in the second stanza.
North Dakota converted 25-38 from the free throw line, while Montana State went just three-of-eight.
The Bobcats had a good night taking care of the ball committing 14 turnovers- its second lowest total of the season. MSU forced UND into 26 miscues.
UND held a 38-26 advantage under the boards. Wallace paced the Bobcats with six rebounds.
Montana State will finish its non-conference schedule at North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon.
