Bulldogs Toe-the-Line in Win Over Bobcat Women

Drake (4-3) converted 22-of-30 free throw attempts, while Montana State (2-4) went just three-of-six from the charity stripe. The Bobcats held a 29-27 advantage in field-goals and registered three more 3-pointers.
“It comes down to taking care of the details,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We missed a box-out here; a layup there; a turnover, etc., and that just starts to add up over the course of a 40-minute game.”
MSU jumped out to an early 16-8 lead at the 12:21 mark of the opening period on a Jamie Thornton basket. The game was tied on six occasions, before Drake scored a pair of baskets in the final 1:37 to take a 32-28 lead at intermission.
“I thought we played a very solid first half,” Binford said. “We shot 50 percent from the field, but trailed in rebounding.”
In the second stanza, Montana State’s Erica Perry hit a 3-pointer to knot the score at 45-all with 13:59 remaining. However, Drake rattled off an 18-4 run over the next four-minutes to put the game away.
Bobcat seniors Rebecca Mercer and Krislyn Wallace paced MSU with 16 points, apiece, while Perry added 14 and Sarah Strand 11.
Drake won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding Montana State 34-25. MSU was led under the glass by Perry with a career-high seven rebounds.
The sophomore point-guard also tallied a game-high six assists.
“Erica had an outstanding game,” Binford said. “She went the full 40-minutes with good pressure, and she really played with great composure.”
For the game, Montana State shot a season-high 55 percent from the field. In addition, the Bobcats hit seven-of-14 three-pointers.
Drake ended the game shooting 47 percent from the floor and 31 percent from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs forced the Bobcats into 21 turnovers, while committing only 14 miscues.
Drake was paced in the win by Jill Martin with 18 points and six rebounds.
MSU, who has opened the season with five-of-six road games, including four consecutive contests away from Worthington Arena, will host Utah Valley on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
